What is HSDPA( High Speed Downlink Packet Access) ?

11:21 AM

While talking about 3G we come across the word “HSDPA” quite oftenly. Many of us may not understand exactly what it stands for and how is it different from 3G?Here is the answer.-

3G vs HSDPA:
HSDPA ( High Speed Downlink Packet Access) is a new mobile data protocol and is also reffered to as 3.5G. HSDPA is faster than 3G.  3G ,as we know,is 3rd Generation of  Telecommunication  standard which gives data download speed upto 384 kbps download speed and upload speed upto 64kbps.While HSDPA is way up faster than this.HSDPA gives download speed upto 3.6mbps and upload speed upto 384kbps.
Many of the smartphones and high speed phones have both 3G and 3.5G or HSDPA.If your phone is 3.5G or HSDPA enabled then you can experience very fast internet on your phone.Design speed of HSDPA is around 7.2 Mbps but practically speed may go upto 3.6Mbps.
So if you are planning to purchase a 3G phone ,better purchase a phone which has HSDPA or 3.5G instead of only 3G.If your phone is 3G and not 3.5 G then you will not be able to enjoy HSDPA speed even if you have HSDPA service activated on your connection.
In India, currently MTNL and BSNL are providing 3G and 3.5G service.Private operators will be able to  launch probably after one and half years if the auction of spectrum doesn’t get delayed further.
3G  : Download speed upto 384 kbps           3.5G: Download speed upto 3.6Mbps
Upload speed upto 64Kbps                                     Upload speed upto: 384Kbps
